Miami Beach, FL – Hoping to inspire the next generation of athletes, the City of Miami Beach will hold a ceremony on Friday, Feb. 21 at 3:30 p.m. to mark the grand opening of the North Shore Artistic Playground. The newly renovated playground — located at 501 72 St — features a colorful, sports-themed mural by local artist Néstor Augusto Turallas, better known in the art community as Falopapas.

Adjacent to the North Shore Youth Center, Miami Beach Tennis Center and Manny LaFont baseball fields, the new playground offers a nod to the area's rich sporting culture and wide range of recreational opportunities available in North Beach.

“The North Shore Artistic Playground is more than just a play space — it’s an investment in our North Beach community, promoting healthy, active lifestyles,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “Enhancing our public spaces strengthens our neighborhoods and helps create a safer, family-friendly Miami Beach.”

Funded by the city’s 2018 voter-led General Obligation Bond as well as the 2022 Arts and Culture Bond, the project provided a much-needed upgrade to the prior playground on the site, which was built in 2009 for children aged 5 to 12. The new equipment is suitable for both younger children aged 2 to 5 as well as the older children.

In addition to the new playground equipment and mural, the project included safety surfacing, shade structures, benches, a chilled drinking fountain with bottle filler, updated landscaping as well as new trash and recycling receptacles.
