Aiming Beyond High - My Health & Wellness Medical Group

Black health and wellness is an important theme that focuses on the health of Black Americans and the contributions of Black scholars and medical practitioners. It also acknowledges the struggles that Black Americans face in healthcare and the importance of wellness for strength and resilience.

The theme for this year’s Black History Month focuses on the various and profound ways that work and working of all kinds – free and unfree, skilled, and unskilled, vocational and voluntary – intersect with the collective experiences of Black Americans. Miami-Dade County is ranked 5th in the nation for the largest number of Black-owned employer businesses, and Miami's Black consumer market is valued at $5.5 billion dollars, making it the 14th largest in the nation. Therefore, it is an opportune time to focus on a thriving Miami Beach medical practitioner and entrepreneur, Dr. Rachael Nambusi.

Dr. Nambusi’s journey began in East Africa, and her journey has led to her ascending to be a renowned physician and flight surgeon in Miami Beach. Some would think this is extraordinary.  It is due to Rachael’s passion for medicine, from an early age where she witnessed the health struggles faced by her community and committed to focus on the importance of joy and wellness and making a difference in the world through medicine.

A Doctor of Medicine graduate of Ross University, Dr. Nambusi enjoyed the Barbados global community, the blend of cultures and lifestyle that listened to, cared for, advocated for, and helped the least resourced get necessary care. The experience ignited her passion for global health and the opportunity to focus on preventive measures to ensure the community could live the best holistic and fulfilled lives possible.

In 2017, it was no surprise that Dr. Nambusi’s career led to an opportunity to see more of the world via the United States Air Force. As a flight surgeon, in the Air Force Reserves, she combined her love of aviation with her commitment to health and service. A challenging and exhilarating experience, she witnessed the impact of high-altitude and high stress environments on the pilots and crew’s health and wellness.

Despite her impressive military career, she was called to Miami Beach. Dr. Nambusi says she was drawn by the vibrant culture and diverse population, and she felt it was the perfect place to make a meaningful impact. Dr. Nambusi’s vision was clear: she wanted to open a clinic that focused on preventative medicine and help people before they became patients. With her training, experiences, and passion for health, she took a leap of faith and opened her own clinic, which she calls her “Baby,” in the heart of the Mid-Beach neighborhood.

Dr. Nambusi has accomplished everything she strived to be, a doctor, a surgeon, a healer, and educator. Her story of a resilient, passionate, and driven healer clearly has more chapters to come. She lives by a motto she learned during her time in the Air Force: “Mission first, people always,”, and she continues to dedicate her life to ensuring that everyone under her care is healthy, strong, and ready to take on the world.
