CERT: The Miami Beach Community Emergency Response Team
If you are interested in volunteering with the City of Miami Beach in any capacity (following a disaster or not) you are required to complete the CERT training course. CERT training is offered as a series of classes that total 24 hours, including a simulated disaster drill. Completion of all modules is necessary to obtain certification.
- Reducing vulnerability to potential major emergency and disaster incidents.
- Planning for the best processes by which the community can rebound physically, economically and emotionally.
- Engaging the whole community in planning, training, and exercising core capabilities under the five mission areas of prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery.

DEM Preparedness Workshop or Event Attendance Requests
The Miami Beach Division of Emergency Management works with residents, homeowners associations, civic groups, nonprofits, faith-based organizations and houses of worship, and businesses to strengthen the level of emergency preparedness. Staff from the Division of Emergency Management as well as Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers are available to deliver emergency preparedness presentations to community organizations and homeowners associations, work with businesses/nonprofits and staff emergency preparedness exhibits at local events.
